Η Audi την περασμένη Πέμπτη παρουσίασε την δεύτερη γενιά του Q5 στην έκθεση του Παρισιού, εκεί όπου και ανακοίνωσε πως η παραγωγή του θα γίνεται αποκλειστικά στο νέο της εργοστάσιο στο Μεξικό. Τώρα, η γερμανική εταιρία ανακοίνωσε πως ξεκίνησε τη παραγωγή του μοντέλου στο “state-of-the-art” νέο εργοστάσιό της στη πόλη San Jose Chiapa του Μεξικό, που θα θα κατασκευάζει σε πρώτη φάση τις βενζινοκίνητες/πετρελαιοκίνητες εκδόσεις του Q5, με την ηλεκτρική έκδοση να ακολουθεί στο άμεσο μέλλον. Το σχέδιο της Audi είναι να προσφέρει ηλεκτρικές εκδόσεις σε όλα τα Q μοντέλα της μέχρι το 2020, με το Q6 e-tron να είναι το πρώτο που θα περάσει στην παραγωγή στις αρχές του 2018. Το εργοστάσιο έχει ετήσια παραγωγική δυναμικότητα περίπου 150.000 SUV ετησίως και μέχρι το τέλος του 2016 θα απασχολεί 4.200 υπαλλήλους. Το εργοστάσιο που κόστισε 1 δισ. ευρώ, χρειάστηκε 3,5 χρόνια για να ολοκληρωθεί και εκτείνεται σε μια έκταση 400 στρεμμάτων και διαθέτει εγκαταστάσεις συναρμολόγησης, φανοποιείο και βαφείο.
